Civil Fines Charter Amendment Defeated

The Charter Commission defeated the City Council’s request to give our City Council the power to impose fines of up to $2000 for any violation of any ordinance.  On October 18, 2021, the Commission voted against the proposed charter amendment with 6 members in favor and 7 members opposed.  This was the City Council’s second defeat in its effort to grant itself authority to impose fines for any ordinance violation.
